Group seeks statewide curb on workplace smoking

A campaign for a comprehensive, statewide smoking ban kicked off here tonight, with proponents seeking a new law protecting Hoosier workers from exposure to secondhand smoke.

Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air, sponsor of the Greenfield kickoff event, said it would be the first in a series of "town hall" meetings across the state urging the Indiana General Assembly to follow the lead of other states in passing workplace protection laws.

The group is urging that the state law cover all workplaces in 2009.
