Governor Rod Blagojevich's office announced Sunday night he intends to sign a statewide smoking ban into effect Monday morning in Chicago. . . .

The state law is expected to trump local ordinances. Bloomington, Normal, and unincorporated portions of McLean County have smoking bans which have already taken effect. Despite several efforts, there was not enough support on the council to pass such a ban in the City of Peoria.

The bill signing will take place at Northwestern University Monday morning at 11:30.
