Proposed smoking ban adds more twists

A proposal to ban smoking in most work places could be in serious trouble after lawmakers today added several exemptions to the ban, including an exemption for small, neighborhood taverns.

The bill sponsors say they cannot support a smoking ban with exemptions -- and said they will kill their own proposal if the bill cannot be salvaged to force mom-and-pop taverns to go smoke free.

"We'll live to fight another day," said Sen. Dan Grossman, D-Denver, sponsor of the bill. "It's far from dead. We have our work cut out to remove all the exemptions."
