An Illinois Senate committee on Monday considered the pros and cons of a potential smoking ban for the entire state, nearly 15 months after the Legislature and Gov. Rod Blagojevich gave local governments the power to pass smoke-free ordinances.

State Sen. Terry Link, D-Vernon Hills, has introduced a statewide measure modeled on Chicago's new indoor smoking restrictions, which include exemptions for bars with approved ventilation systems. But Link said he might revise his bill in the fall veto session to drop any exceptions - making it strict and comprehensive.
