CEDAR RAPIDS CASINO: This measure would have authorized a no-smoking casino in Cedar Rapids, where many local leaders were unhappy after state regulators rejected plans last year for a $164 million casino project. A similar bill that would authorize two no-smoking casinos was considered by a House panel, but also did not advance. All of Iowa's casinos now permit smoking on their gambling floors, so the idea of a smoke-free casino was seen as a way to promote a Cedar Rapids gambling operation. Senate File 139.
