Florida's legislators can take a small step toward cleaning the air our children breathe by passing legislation this spring that would let municipalities ban smoking on playgrounds.

Legislators caved to special interests and their own limited-government ideology last year when they failed to enact a bill that would have allowed cities to ban smoking on beaches and other public outdoor areas.
